Beerware ("we", "our", "us") is a mobile application that helps users discover pubs and drinks near them. We take your privacy seriously. This policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, how we store it, and your rights regarding your personal information.

1. What Data We Collect

When you use Beerware, we may collect the following information:

• Account information: email address and username (required to create an account).
• Location data: your device's location while the app is open (foreground only), used to show pubs near you.
• User-generated content: pub ratings, drink reports, and any other content you submit through the app.
• Device information: basic device type and operating system version, collected automatically for app stability and compatibility purposes.

2. Why We Collect This Data

We use your data to:

• Show you pubs and drinks near your current location.
• Enable community features such as rating pubs and reporting what drinks are on tap.
• Maintain and improve the app's functionality and user experience.
• Communicate important updates about the service.

3. Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored securely using Supabase, with servers located in the European Union. We implement appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your personal data against unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction.

We do not sell your data to third parties.

4. Location Data

Beerware only accesses your location while the app is actively open and in the foreground. We do not track your location in the background. Location data is used solely to display pubs near you and is not stored on our servers beyond what is necessary for the app to function.

5. Authentication

We offer email and password authentication to create your account. Optional social login (e.g., Apple, Google) may be available. When using social login, we only receive your email address and display name — we do not access your social media content or contacts.

6. Third-Party Services

Beerware uses the following third-party services:

• Supabase — database, authentication, and backend services (EU servers).
• Expo — app build and delivery infrastructure.
• Apple Maps / Google Maps — map tile rendering and display (depending on your device).

Each of these services has its own privacy policy. We encourage you to review them.

7. Your Rights (GDPR)

Under the UK GDPR, you have the right to:

• Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
• Correction — request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data.
• Deletion — request deletion of your personal data ("right to be forgotten").
• Data portability — request your data in a structured, commonly used format.
• Object — object to processing of your data in certain circumstances.
• Restrict processing — request that we limit how we use your data.

8. How to Delete Your Account

You can delete your account at any time by:

• Using the "Delete Account" option in the app's Settings screen, or
• Emailing us at beerwareapp@gmail.com with the subject line "Delete My Account".

When your account is deleted, all associated personal data (email, username, ratings, and drink reports) will be permanently removed from our systems within 30 days.

9. Cookies

Beerware is a mobile application and does not use cookies. This marketing website uses no tracking cookies or analytics.

10. Age Restriction

Beerware is intended for users aged 18 and over only, as the app relates to alcohol. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under the age of 18. If we become aware that a user is under 18, we will promptly delete their account and associated data.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. If we make significant changes, we will notify users via an in-app notification. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will always reflect the most recent revision.
